In the world of footwear, Ugg has designed some of the most controversial styles around. And while yes, upon first read, the four-letter word, “Uggs,” will always be associated with those mid-calf suede boots you wore all throughout the early aughts, the brand has truly expanded its assortment to include out-there options that make people do double (even triple) takes. Irina Shayk went with a bold, daring Ugg clog last spring, a shoe that proved to be highly popular and highly practical, especially for the rainy season, and now, it’s Blake Lively who’s making a case for an in-your-face pair that fuses fashion with function.
Lively and hubby, Ryan Reynolds, were spotted out and about on their typical New York City stroll (talk about couple goals as per usual!), both wearing various shades of blue. Reynolds went with his usual, no-fail combo — trousers plus a button-down sweater and crisp white sneakers — while Lively opted for a more layered look that screamed fall. She wore baggy blue jeans, a blue hoodie, and dark-blue wool overcoat, rounding out the look with a blue Chanel bag, simple sunglasses, and those designer Uggs.
Lively’s exact Uggs are from the brand’s collaboration with Opening Ceremony, and to no surprise, they’re already sold out. Uggs tend to have a very quick sell-out rate as is, but add in a buzzy designer, a cool (though controversial) design, and a celeb fan base, and you have the making of an instant sell-out. Sorry! That said, while you won’t be able to get your hands on Lively’s exact $250 designer pair, you can get similar styles that touch on the standout design (that platform sole), for less than half the price. Yes, really.

Ugg Tazzlita Genuine Shearling Trim Platform Slipper
Regular-shmegular Uggs with their sensible sole and comfy design will always be a favorite, but we’ve seen celebs gravitate toward the more out-there designs these days. That’s probably in part due to the rise of the “ugly” shoe trend, which isn't really something “ugly,” but rather something unusual. Shayk’s rubber clogs were unusual, and Lively’s platform leather buckle slides are, too, but there’s something ultra alluring in the unusual, and that’s probably why we’ll continue to see the footwear scene evolve in that direction. TBH, we’re okay with that, but fashion is supposed to stir up emotions and spark conversations. Shoes like Lively’s do just that.
Platform Ugg slides combine comfort with a cool-girl edge. The shoes have all the tried-and-true features people have come to know and love, like a genuine shearling lining and a suede upper, fused with a chunky-though-sensible sole that takes a look to new heights — literally. There’s simply no denying that a platform shoe screams “I’m cool and I know it,” which is exactly why I’ll be adding a few to my fall rotation.
