It may officially be fall (and pumpkin spice latte season), but New York City Octobers tend to be far from the crisp weather we fantasize about all summer long. With temperatures well into the 70s (and 80s, for that matter), a little creativity is required to make our fall wardrobe work. There's no one better to give us a lesson in said transitional dressing than the queen of New York City fall fashion herself, Blake Lively.
On Tuesday, the actress stepped out in a classic autumn outfit formula (sweater, jeans, chunky loafers) with a sunny twist to make the look more weather-appropriate (after all, the sun is finally shining in NYC following days of rain and flooding). Lively forewent the colors of the season (reds, greens, browns, etc.) and opted for a bright yellow oversized sweater to matching her white-and-yellow striped Louis Vuitton crossbody and coordinating heeled loafers. Like the trendsetter she is (remember, she is fully self-styled), Blake also played into one of the biggest aesthetics of the season: '70s fashion. Case in point? She styled her plunging sweater, which had a collar along the neckline, and yellow-and-ivory loafers with flared jeans from Mother Denim. Her groovy yellow-lensed sunglasses put the final touches on her retro-inspired 'fit.
Lively wore her blonde hair in loose waves and a super deep side part and kept glam very minimal.
This isn't the first time even this week that Blake channeled the decade with her clothes. In fact, over the weekend, she was seen hand-in-hand with her bestie Taylor Swift in a quintessential '70s skirt: an orange, mustard, red, and brown stripped midiskirt. She added plaid a peacoat and tall tan suede boots to further commit to the trend. Finally, a boxy Louis Vuitton handbag completed the look.
She and Swift were heading to a girls' night out at Italian restaurant Emilio’s Ballato, where they met up with Lively's sister Robyn along with Sophie Turner and Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chief quarterback Patrick Mahomes. According to People, Swift and Brittany first met after last week's game. On Sunday, the girls attended the Chiefs and New York Jets game at Met Life stadium to cheer on Swift's rumored beau, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
