Britney Spears is opening up about the brief fling she had with Colin Farrell in 2003. In her new memoir, The Woman in Me, the pop star revealed that she met the actor through a "club promoter friend" before the two embarked on a "two-week brawl" (her words, not ours).
"Brawl is the only word for it," the singer wrote in an excerpt released by Time. "We were all over each other, grappling so passionately it was like we were in a street fight." At the height of their romance (which many thought was just a publicity stunt), Britney and Colin made a cuddled-up appearance together on the red carpet at the premiere of his movie The Recruit, but according to the Grammy-winner, she still wasn't over her breakup with Justin Timberlake.
“As I had before when I’d felt too attached to a man, I tried to convince myself in every way that it was not a big deal, that we were just having fun, that in this case, I was vulnerable because I wasn’t over Justin yet,” she said, adding that "for a brief moment in time" she did think "there could be something there."
"The disappointments in my romantic life were just one part of how isolated I became," Spears continued. "I felt so awkward all the time.”
However, Farrell was adamant that their relationship was just casual, telling reporters at the premiere: "We’re not dating. She’s a sweet, sweet girl. There’s nothing going on — just mates." Later that year, Britney echoed a similar sentiment while speaking with W Magazine. "Yes, I kissed him," she confessed. "He's the cutest, hottest thing in the world — wooh! But it was nothing serious."
