Cameron Diaz and Angelina Jolie Convinced Me That 2024’s Biggest Bag Trend Is… a Big Bag

There were a few years where everyone went all in on teeny, tiny bags. It was like a competition to see who could carry the least while still carrying something, with everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Sydney Sweeney trying out the trend. But it seems we all discovered the same thing on this endeavor: Micro bags are nothing if not impractical. Where did we think we were going with a purse that carried a single lip gloss but not a phone? Fortunately, it looks like people are finally trading in their bite-sized bags for something a bit more substantial, and Cameron Diaz and Angelina Jolie have been carrying my favorite version.

Since last winter, Angelina Jolie has been opting for oversized, black quilted tote bags — she reaches for the style so often, it’s really become part of her signature look. And this week, Cameron Diaz took a page from her book; while out in Aspen, the star could be seen carrying an ultra-roomy black tote with an intricate woven design (which of course she paired with Uggs). It was proof that not only are big bags back, but that the new look is all about texture — it’s a modern take on an iconic look.

And according to someone else, the bag isn’t just “stylish” and “durable,” but travel-proof. “It withstood every travel test” they put it through on a recent trip, they explained, even those they “didn’t anticipate, such as being drenched by sea water on very choppy waters.” Okay, consider me sold.
