Anna Faris Explained Why She Never Talked About Her "Issues" With Chris Pratt

They separated in August 2017 after eight years of marriage.

Back in 2017, when Anna Faris and Chris Pratt announced that they were separating, many fans felt blindsided by the news. But they weren't the only ones. Faris's friends were just as surprised, she explained, because even when things were starting to get rocky, she never told anyone. In the latest episode of her podcast, Anna Faris Is Unqualified, Faris told guest Rachel Bilson that during the breakup, she felt like she couldn't talk to anyone about it and that she'd lost control of the narrative.

"For me, I think after every breakup, at some point I realize that there were a lot of things I ignored that I really shouldn't have," she said. "In hindsight, it felt like my hand was forced. I don't think it was ever an independent decision."

Faris also said that she and Pratt wanted to continue and project the image of being blissfully in love as long as they could. And they were good at it, because even "close circles" couldn't tell that anything was going on. It was unique to their relationship, Faris told Bilson, saying that with her exes, people could tell that something was happening.

"I think it stunted me in a lot of ways," she added. "One of them being that I never talked about any issues, so to the people, even who I was closest to, I'm sure things were more transparent with my relationship with Ben [Indra], but with Chris, I think that we both protected that imagery even within our close circles."

Faris has been reserved with details about her breakup with Pratt (they are friendly, E! News adds, and co-parent their 8-year-old son, Jack). However, she did open up about it a few times before, saying that she wanted to "protect" her relationships and that the balance of being forthcoming to help her listeners and keeping her private life private was a "tricky area."

"This is a tricky area for me because I've gone through two divorces now," Faris said during a previous episode. "I'm in an amazing relationship, [so] I do want to talk to everybody about these things, that I don't really know much about. But I also feel that I want to protect things in a way that I hadn't considered before."
