The year was 1999. MTV's TRL was a major cultural touchstone and the world knew Britney Spears as a chart-topping pop princess, not a woman that just got liberated from a much-talked-about conservancy. The place? Pompano Beach, Florida. The occasion? A concert where Spears trotted out with her signature blonde hair wearing a pink tube top and white pants, cementing a moment in time with lip gloss and body glitter. The pink outfit would go on to become one of Spears's most memorable stage costumes, ever, and in honor of '90s Night on The Voice, Ariana Grande did her best to pay homage to that magical late-'90s moment.
Grande's outfit included the same bubblegum pink rhinestone-embellished tube top and her flared white pants also featured the matching pink knee-pad details as Spears's. But because Ari will be Ari, she finished her look with her signature high ponytail and white boots. And it wasn't the only time she's thrown it back to Spears's heyday. Just last week, Grande joined her The Voice coaches on The Tonight Show, E! reports, and performed "Oops! ... I Did It Again."
Grande shared a close-up of the look on Instagram, giving her followers a look at her makeup and the rhinestone trim on her top.
Back in November, Grande paid homage to another '00s icon, Jennifer Garner's character from 2004's 13 Going on 30, Jenna Rink, wearing a multi-color, vintage Versace dress during The Voice's preliminary rounds. Garner famously performed Michael Jackson's "Thriller" in the outfit and while Grande didn't do the same, the outfit hit all the right notes when it came to aughts nostalgia.
