Ariana Grande is defying gravity when it comes to her talent — incredible vocalist, soon-to-be makeup guru, and now you can add actress to the list, because Grande just landed a major movie role.
On Thursday, the singer took to her Instagram to share the exciting news that she's been cast as Glinda in the movie adaptation of the hit, Tony-winning Broadway musical Wicked. Grande will star in the Jon M. Chu (Crazy, Rich Asians, In the Heights) directed film alongside actress and singer Cynthia Erivo, who will play Elphaba.
"thank goodness 💘 @jonmchu @cynthiaerivo @wickedmovie," Grande captioned her Instagram carousel, which captured the very moment she and Erivo found out they were casted in the film via a Zoom call with Chu. The gallery also included a beautiful bouquet of flowers sent to Grande by Erivo with a sweet note that read "'Pink Goes Good With Green' Congratulations Miss A, The Part Was Made For You, I Look Forward To Sharing This Musical Journey With You. Love, Cynthia."
Grande, who actually got her start on Broadway in the musical 13, has always been a huge fan of Wicked. In fact, a resurfaced tweet from 2011, confirms that playing Glinda has always been a "dream role" for Grande. "Loved seeing Wicked again... amazing production!" Grande wrote nearly 10 years ago. "Made me realize again how badly I want 2 play Glinda at some point in my life!"
Grande has always had that star quality, even from a young age. Last night, she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where the talk show host surprised Grande with an old clip of her impressively belting "The National Anthem" at just 8 years old before a Florida hockey game.
