Even though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dominate the headlines with just about anything that they do, it doesn't mean that everyone can keep up with the whirlwind of breaking news. Case in point: Kristen Stewart, who played Princess Diana in Spencer, but told Vanity Fair that she didn't know that the royals had decamped from Buckingham Palace to put roots down in California.
"That's so funny. I wonder where," Stewart said after she learned that the Sussexes moved stateside. "I'm no better than anyone! Of course, I want to know."
When VF's Yohana Desta informed her that Harry and Meghan chose Santa Barbara, Stewart approved of the choice.
"That makes sense," she said. "It's really nice up there."
Stewart did manage to catch a bit of Harry and Meghan's sit-down with Oprah Winfrey, however. Stewart explained that she couldn't sit down and watch it from start to finish, but that she did watch.
"It was almost too hot to touch in terms of how personal it was for me at that time," she said. To prep for her role in Spencer, Stewart said that she worked hard to get Diana's accent right and dove deep into anything and everything Princess Diana to learn what she could. One of the major takeaways? Stewart said she was so surprised to see that Diana was so isolated and alone when she was in the public eye.
"One of the remarkable things is that Diana was so friendless," she said. "I'm constantly going, 'Where was your fucking homie?'"
The role earned Stewart an Oscar nomination for Best Actress this year. Sources close to the Sussexes shared that Harry and Meghan may attend the big event, though the fact that Stewart will be in attendance might keep them from making an appearance.
"It's struck a sour note with Harry. He's pretty appalled by the film," a source told OK! "Harry's not one to be fake, and his nerves are still raw. He's actually thinking about skipping the Oscars, but Meghan really wants back into the Hollywood scene."
