If there's one person who can keep the momentum on the mermaidcore trend going, it's Dua Lipa (she did play Mermaid Barbie in Greta Gerwig's new Barbie movie, after all).
After stepping out on the pink carpet for the film's Los Angeles premiere in a sparkly fishnet dress with silver underwear and matching mules earlier this month, the pop star channeled her character in the film again — but this time, her outfit included a subtle sartorial nod to her home country.
On Sunday, Dua, whose parents are from Albanian, shared a set of new snapshots from her time in her native Kosovo on Instagram, captioned: "charging my crystals ✨." In the photos, Dua wore a red see-through crochet gown with a bustier-style bodice and a long fishtail skirt that cascaded down from behind. Underneath, Dua wore nothing but a black thong (black and red are the core colors of the Albanian flag).
Striking a number of poses on a rocky cliff off the coast, Lipa finished off her outfit with silver hoop earrings, a long pendant necklace, and a smattering of gold rings. Her long dark hair was worn down in beach waves, while the rest of her glam included a bronzy glow along with a swipe of highlighter on each cheek.
Hours earlier, Dua toasted to her single from the Barbie soundtrack, "Dance the Night," becoming one of the top 5 songs in the U.K. with behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage, which showed cast members Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and more practicing their moves for the movie's big dance number.
