Fall fashion is nothing if not consistent. Each year, we circle back to the same staple pieces: Oversized sweaters, knee-high boots, and deep blue denim. But even with that consistency, sometimes a new take on one of the classics takes off. And this fall, it’s all about the red-hot knits.
Fire engine red has quickly emerged as one of 2023’s hottest colors — worn by stars including Eva Longoria, Kim Kardashian, and Hailey Bieber — and knitwear seems to be the way to wear it this fall. Just in the last week Jennifer Lawrence has worn a chili-red sweater not once but three times, while Emily Ratajkowski proved that the trend can also be surprisingly sexy.
While out in New York City, the supermodel rocked a $3,400 cherry-red V-neck sweater dress from Loewe with knee-high, snakeskin boots. Her baggy knit hit mid-thigh, giving the illusion that she just popped on a seriously oversized knit before heading out. Equal parts sexy and comfy, I immediately started searching for where I could get a lookalike.
Whether you’re wanting Ratajkowski’s head-turning look or an everyday sweater inspired by her dress, I found eight fall-perfect red knits you can grab today, starting at $31:

Btfbm Oversized Sweater Dress
This sweater dress from Amazon gives you that same short-but-oversized look as Ratajkowski’s dress and features a round neckline, drop shoulders, and ribbed detailing at the sleeves and hem. Essentially, it looks like you bought a classic crewneck in a size four-times bigger than you needed. According to one shopper, the dress is “super soft and comfortable,” “fits well,” and is a “good length,” with another person explaining that “the length is about mid-thigh… which is the perfect in-between of too short and too long.” That same person raved that the dress is “simple, soft,” and surprisingly lightweight for a sweater, adding that they plan to bring it into winter with a warm pair of tights.
Free People Ottoman Slouchy Tunic
Free People’s Ottoman Slouchy Tunic perfectly plays with proportions. What the tunic lacks at the bottom (at just 27-inches long, this is a mini dress) it makes up for at the top with an exaggerated mockneck. It also happens to be a shopper favorite, with over 100 five-star reviews. One customer called it the “perfect slouchy sweater” that’s “worth the money,” and said they styled theirs as a dress, pairing the knit with black tights and booties. Another shopper said that they “can’t get enough” of it, recommending that those wanting to wear it as a dress go one size up. But if you’re more comfortable with a layer underneath, shoppers also say that it looks great with leggings and jeans.
J.Crew Relaxed V-neck Pullover Sweater
One of my favorite element’s of Ratajkowski’s sweater dress is the V-neck, which is equal parts sexy and timeless. And while J.Crew’s pullover might not offer the length (you’ll probably want to pair this with your favorite bottoms), it does provide that same deep V and cardinal red color. This is one of those pieces you’ll end up wearing weekly (or at least I know I will), as it pairs just as well with oversized jeans as it does a silky slip skirt.
Red is clearly this fall’s hottest color, so shop more sweaters and knit dresses inspired by Ratajkowski’s fiery look below.
