Emma Stone Revealed That She Got a Black Eye Right Before Her Wedding

Emma Stone has been notoriously private about her personal life, so any time she offers a glimpse into her romance with husband Dave McCary, fans' ears perk right up. Just yesterday, the Poor Things actress revealed a major snafu that happened ahead of her 2020 wedding — and it may just be a bride's biggest nightmare. Speaking with co-hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, Stone shared that she had a self-inflicted (and very embarrassing) injury just days before her wedding.

"The week that I got married, I did open a refrigerator and the handle broke off," Stone said during an appearance on the Smartless podcast. "And I got a black eye."

After that bombshell, she joked, "I need a helmet and extensive therapy."

Stone hasn't shared many details about her wedding or her life with McCary (the two share a 2-year-old daughter, Louise Jean McCary), but she also mentioned on the podcast that she re-wore one of her wedding looks to the 2022 Met Gala. The knee-length, feather-embellished dress that Stone wore to that year's exhibit, "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," was the same look she wore to her wedding after-party.

Stone and McCary were originally set to get married in March 2020, but postponed their wedding due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"She is professional in every way, very talented and focused on her work, and Dave respects that,” a source told People in 2019. “He totally supports her, and is unselfish in his desire for her success. Those are great qualities in a man for someone like Emma. She is impressed by his talent and respects him immensely.”
