If you follow celebrity fashion in hopes that their looks will spark some wardrobe inspiration, Hailey Bieber’s style is one to take note of. Bieber was found to be one of 2022’s fashion icons through a study conducted by CommonCentsMom.com, and not only are her outfits highly covetable, they are also some of the easiest to copy outside with your own clothes.
I’ve followed Hailey Bieber’s style revolution for years and it’s been evident from the start that the model-turned-skincare mogul’s looks are pretty fluid and tend to follow a similar formula. Whether she’s walking a red carpet or running errands with her hubby, Bieber and her stylists, Karla Welch and Dani Michelle, have both her red carpet and street style priorities down pat. First comes comfort, then comes an ensemble’s cool factor. Somehow, they’ve been able to strike the perfect balance between the two, and the result is always worthy of praise.
So, what are the ways in which you can mimic Hailey Bieber’s style in your everyday life? Ahead, I’ve broken down the five go-to outfit ideas Bieber keeps in rotation, along with tips for how to copy them with your own clothes.
Oversized Outerwear
The first category of clothing that comes to mind when I think of Hailey Bieber’s style is outerwear — oversized outerwear.
Whether a puffer style or leather, this street style queen loves a roomy outer shell. It’s become her signature throughout the years, and from December 2021 to now, it would appear that her obsession hasn’t faltered. For example, in December of 2021, Bieber was photographed in LA, sporting a spacious bomber jacket as her outermost layer over a white baby tee, paired with straight-leg, light-wash jeans, black sneakers, and accessorizing with a black ballcap and matching sunglasses.
In March of 2022, Bieber pulled a similar move, opting to pair baggier-fitted, low-rise denim and a white, stomach-baring butterfly top with an oversized, floor-length leather coat. The hardened exterior added a masculine contrast to the model’s otherwise feminine ensemble, and she topped things off with a delicate gold body chain and matching jewelry.
Cool Dad Vibes
Another constant in Bieber’s aesthetic? She loves a laid-back athleisure moment. When I describe some of her outfits as “cool dad vibes,” I’m not referring to her wearing a vacation shirt. Rather, the 26-year-old gravitates toward the kind of suit jackets, sneakers, and ball caps you might find in your father’s closet. A simple formula, yet she pieces them together in a way that feels elevated.
Back in January 2022, for example, Bieber was photographed in a pair of black pants, a simple grey hoodie (hood up), and a plaid suit jacket over top. She kept her accessories minimal — a black hat and shades — and completed the fit with what appeared to be worn-in sneakers. It’s giving “I’m not a regular Dad, I’m a cool Dad.”
And for anyone who’s ever turned up their nose at the T-shirt tuck, Bieber makes a compelling argument in favor of it. She was photographed in Paris sporting a white tee tucked into a pair of wide-leg denim held up at the naval with a gold-buckled black belt. She went on to add crisp white sneakers and a blazer along with her signature gold jewels — a necklace and hoops — and had her hair in a slicked-back bun.
Lampshading With an Athletic Twist
Ariana Grande may be considered the queen of lampshading to some, but Bieber seems to be a big fan herself as of late, giving the look an athleisure twist. In November, the model hit the gym in an oversized, gray crew neck sweatshirt that was so long, it covered up the short-shorts she wore underneath. Instead of knee-high boots, she wore sneakers and scrunched crew socks, accessorizing with a Nike cap, a scrunchy on her wrist, and gold hoops.
Bieber was photographed in a similar ensemble not a month later, this time in a slightly shorter (but still lengthy) crewneck with gray short shorts peeking out from underneath. In true fitness fashion, she wore her hair up in a ponytail (secured with a red scrunchie) and blue sneakers to match her sweatshirt and water bottle. It’s the casual coordination for me.
Monochrome Moments
If you review Bieber’s best style moments over the past few years, two things stay consistent throughout her looks: Comfort and convenience — something that monochromatic moments typically provide. With a matching set, you don’t have to think about what goes with what, and Bieber has been known to rock a synchronized ensemble on and off the red carpet.
The look photographed above is one of my favorites. Stepping out for a night in SoHo, Bieber chose to stick with a chocolate brown color scheme. True, the outfit isn’t a traditional matching set, but it all correlates, from her leather jacket to her gingham top and flared pants.
Even on afternoons when she doesn’t have to glam up, Bieber will opt for a coordinated, comfy aesthetic. Back in September, the multi-hyphenate hit the streets with husband, Justin, in a pair of baggy khakis and a matching beige knit sweater.
Gowns, Gowns, Gowns
Whether she’s posing on the red carpet or making a guest appearance on a talk show, Bieber clearly loved long, understated gowns in 2022. One of my favorites was the white crewneck midi dress from Jil Sander she wore on the press tour announcing the launch of her skincare brand, Rhode. It was sophisticated and eye-catching, and the matching sling-back heels added to the look’s overall elegance.
Then, for the Wall Street Journal Magazine 2022 Innovator Awards at the Museum of Modern Art in November, Bieber graced the red carpet in this stunning Saint Laurent black gown, with wavy hair and minmal makeup. It's no secret Bieber is a natural beauty, but if anything proved it, it was this understated yet stunning moment.
