There’s no wrong way to age, but I find Helen Mirren’s take to be graceful and realistic. She’s not trying to look like she’s in her 20s; instead, she's embracing the beauty and fortune of spending nearly eight decades on this planet. That being said, she looks amazing — I hope to look that good when I’m in my 60s. Thankfully, the actress doesn’t gatekeep her skincare routine, so we have a good amount of intel on the products she uses. The latest revelation, courtesy of a Harper’s Bazaar video, is that she uses a $16 colloidal silver healing ointment.
In the video, Mirren takes viewers through her beauty bag. There’s the expected handful of L’Oréal products (she’s a brand ambassador, after all), a luxe Jo Malone perfume, and the surprise pick: Silver Miracles’ Colloidal Silver Gel. Mirren calls the product “very interesting,” explaining that, “if you have a rash or something going wrong with your skin, like a dry patch, this stuff just magically sort of resolves it.” She’s such a fan of it, it’s a must-have in her travel bag.
Colloidal silver is a controversial ingredient that requires further research and testing, though one study found that the ingredient creates a barrier that protects skin from infection, while another similarly found that it has wound-healing properties. Both explain why Mirren uses it for flare-ups.
I’d never heard of this product or brand before Mirren’s mention, but it has a fanbase of 7,000–plus five-star ratings. A 61-year-old shopper called this “life-changing” due to the marked improvement it had on the “extreme sun damage” on their chest that previously made skin “rough, sandpaper-like, itchy, and [covered] with many age spots.” After just a month of use, they claimed that the “skin on my chest is now soft and smoother, it is never itchy and dry, [and] my age spots are… definitely fading.”
Dozens of other shoppers say Silver Miracles’ Colloidal Silver Gel has been transformative in soothing their eczema. One shopper with eczema and skin so dry it “felt like sandpaper” said this turned their skin “soft and supple.” Another shopper said that after two weeks, this “completely cleared up their eczema.”
