While it may currently be difficult to imagine a time when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship wasn’t dominating the news cycle, let’s take a moment to reflect on earlier this spring. In the span of a few months, Swift kicked off her Eras Tour, (indirectly) announced her split from Joe Alywn after six years of dating, and released the breakup song to end all breakup songs, “You’re Losing Me.” Flash forward to yesterday — months after Swifties finally accepted that Swift and Alywn officially called it quits sometime this year — and Jack Antonoff is entering the chat to shed some light on the breakup’s true timeline of events.

On Wednesday, Swift’s longtime friend and collaborator chose chaos by sharing an Instagram Story celebrating the wide release of “You’re Losing Me,” a vault track that was originally available only on physical limited-edition Midnights CDs.

“'You're Losing Me' is out today. A very special track from the Midnights sessions that's finally streaming!” Jack wrote alongside a snap of Taylor in her kitchen. “Written and recorded at home on 12/5/21 right after Taylor ate those raisins.”

Naturally, Swifties immediately flew into a frenzy upon realizing that Swift’s song, which many believe explains the exact reasoning behind her and Alwyn’s breakup, was actually written and recorded over a year before their split went public in April 2023.

Swift also shared news of the song’s steaming release on her own Instagram account while thanking fans for making her Spotify’s Global Top Artist of 2023, although her message included far less tea.

“Um OK this is unreal??,” she wrote. “I just wanted to say to anyone who listened to my music this year, anywhere in the world, thank you … We’ve seriously had THE MOST fun this year out there on tour and now this. Are you serious. So I was trying to think of a way to thank you, and a lot of you have been asking me to put “You’re Losing Me (From The Vault)” on streaming ... so here you go! You can finally listen EVERYWHERE now 💋”

Alwyn and Swift dated for six years before Swift reportedly initiated their breakup in April, according to Entertainment Tonight

“Taylor and Joe are in totally different places in their lives right now," an insider revealed at the time. "It was more of Taylor's decision to break up, but both of them realized that they weren't completely right for one another. They had been together for such a long time and were spending so much time together, but their personalities were just too different. Joe is more introverted, shy, and quiet.”
