Jennifer Garner and hairstylist Adir Abergel have been working together for more than two decades, all in service of the actor’s ever-coveted, perfectly undone bob. But for this week’s premiere of The Family Switch in Los Angeles, Abergel opted for a touch of drama inspired by an Old Hollywood icon and an application of the duo’s favorite hair product.
“I was kind of thinking of an old-school Veronica Lake,” says Abergel. To cater to the premiere’s afternoon hour while furthering Garner’s flouncy red Oscar de la Renta mini dress, Abergel decided a deeper part would do. “For me, it was really about changing the normal silhouette that we do for Jen, which is normally a little bit more undone,” he says, noting the inclusion of slight extensions to the front of the hair for a blunt finish. “I knew that I wanted it to feel a little more polished.”
Said polish was bolstered with the help of Virtue Healing Oil. “That’s a product that both Jen and I love because it’s not overly oily and creates an immense amount of shine,” says Abergel. A daub of mousse at the root for lift and memory had Garner out the door, ready to celebrate another how-did-I-get-into-this-body film (which, between Family Switch and 13 Going on 30, is a strong aspect of her resume).
“Jen is so incredible because so many of the movies that she ends up doing, a lot of the characters have so much heart and soul in them,” effuses Abergel. “In a time where we’re going through so much, I love that she does these beautiful lighthearted family films that offer a moment of escape.”
