For years, I’d considered makeup primer superfluous. It wasn’t until I entered my 30s — and foundation faltered in ways it hadn’t throughout my college years — that I considered using a pore-blurring, line-smoothing precursor for my face makeup. Tatcha’s primer, my foray into the product category, enlightened me to the benefits of a stellar primer — and I've been searching for similar skin-smoothing makeup bases ever since.
Lancôme’s La Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer, which boasts overwhelmingly glowing reviews, is next on my wishlist. Julia Roberts, a brand ambassador, demonstrated its skin-smoothing powers when she donned it on the red carpet for the Leave the World Behind premiere earlier this month. Celebrity makeup artist Genevieve Herr, who created Roberts’ look, blended the primer “all over the face,” per a press release,” to create “a dewy, illuminated glow.”
The Lancôme La Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer is a skin-smoothing, wrinkle-blurring base for all types of foundation. When applied prior to makeup, it enhances skin by filling in fine lines, wrinkles, and large pores, in turn, creating a smooth base that allows foundation to look its best. Despite its pore-filling prowess, the primer is non-comedogenic thanks to its oil-free formula. It’s clear, lightweight, and grips foundation for a long lasting, fresh-faced look.
Shoppers are enthralled with the primer. “It just glides on like liquid glass,” says one. Another notes that their foundation appears “so soft and creamy” on their skin “and doesn't land in [their] creases” when they use the primer. Similarly, a shopper says the formula “firms” and “reduces the appearance of large pores,” while another notes how it “fills…fine lines and imperfections.”
One more person calls it “cashmere in a pump” thanks to its ultra-smooth, velvety skin-feel, and another, who used to touch-up their foundation “every couple of hours,” calls the product “miraculous” because they now “rarely” need to reapply. Finally, a shopper with mature skin calls the primer “smooth and light,” noting that it makes skin “flawless” with a “soft, airbrushed look.” Who wouldn’t want that?
