Lizzo always slays at the Met Gala. One can never forget last year's goth-inspired bold lip (accessorized with a flute nonetheless) or her bright pink monochromatic hair and eyeshadow for 2019's theme of camp. And for this year's Met Gala, the singer turned to the epitome of elegance for inspo: Audrey Hepburn.
"Tonight's inspiration was the timeless Audrey Hepburn," revealed makeup artist Alexx Mayo. "We wanted to channel an homage to Audrey but give it a sort of futuristic feel — a soft, feminine, timeless glam."
For makeup, Mayo prepped Lizzo's complexion with Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Cream, as he says it will make the foundation glide seamlessly into the skin. Then he used the Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation in shade 13W — a go-to for the singer on every red carpet and performance. To define her cheeks and add some natural-looking flush, he added the new Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wand in Dream Pop. Meanwhile, for that subtle smoky eye, he applied the Luxury Palette in Pillow Talk and the Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes Mascara for some volume for her lashes. The end result is a soft classic glam that is just stunning.
For Lizzo's hair, her stylist Shelby Swain told InStyle that the TikTok fave Dyson Airwrap was all she needed to dry, straighten, and curl the singer's strands. "This is not a tool; it is a system," she explained, revealing that she used the Airwrap to style Lizzo's hair into a voluminous updo for a modern twist on Hepburn's classic top bun.
"Any time I get Lizzo in my makeup chair, it’s a celebration," said Mayo. "The ambiance in the room is full of energy – from the hair team to the styling team to me personally, everyone in the room contributes to that magic energy you need before you hit the carpet."
Swain agreed, adding: "We just vibe. We love to listen to music, eat our favorite snacks, and have a good time."
