Gone are the days when BDE used to stand for "Big Dick Energy" — thanks to Ariana Grande, it now stands for "Big Diva Energy."
Grande, whose ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson helped popularize the term after he began dating her, rebranded the abbreviation into something entirely different while discussing collaborator and friend Lady Gaga. In an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, she discussed working with Gaga, describing her first impressions of her fellow pop star (as well as other women in music).
"I find that that’s what I discovered with every single woman that I’ve met, who has had the BDE, the Big Diva Energy thing thrown around and the horrible rumors started about them, and the narrative has been so weirdly skewed and whatever, I’ve found that everyone that I’ve met has this beautiful human bleeding heart," she said.
In the glory days of Grandavidson — the days before Davidson went on to allegedly couple up with Kate Beckinsale, Margaret Qualley, and Kaia Gerber — their relationship was baffling for some, who couldn't see why someone as glamorous as Grande would date Davidson. Around that time, internet chatter began attributing the attraction to Davidson's "Big Dick Energy."
Now, however, it seems that Grande has brought new meaning to the versatile BDE acronym.
This week, Grande and Gaga dropped their collaboration, "Rain on Me," which Grande described to Apple Music as a chance to "dip a toe into [Gaga's] world a little bit."
"She made me feel so comfortable," she added. "And so her as an artist, but also comfortable stepping out of my me stuff. You know, the video is so Gaga and so fun. I had so much fun. I was like, ‘I’ve never dressed like this in my life. I’m just having the best time.'"
