The 2020 Oscars ceremony is set to unite two Oscar winners who both took home their prizes on the same night 16 years ago: Charlize Theron and Renée Zellweger.
Theron and Zellweger, who are both up for Best Actress this year for their respective roles in Bombshell and Judy, both won Academy Awards in 2004. Theron won Best Actress for Monster, while Zellweger won Best Supporting Actress for Cold Mountain.
For the ceremony, both actresses went for classic glam looks, with Theron donning a bedazzled glittering gown (not unlike her Oscar itself) and matching bedazzled T-strap sandals, with her hair in an old Hollywood-style bob with finger waves. Zellweger, meanwhile, looked like a pure winner in a white satin strapless gown with a train, paired with matching pumps.
The 2004 Oscars marked Theron's first nomination and first win, and Zellweger's third nomination and first win. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live ahead of the 2020 ceremony, Zellweger admitted she couldn't help but go on a "geek spiral" when she won in 2004.
"It just goes out the window," she said. "You’re not going to be the geek person that freezes up and can’t hear anything and gets emotional, and then somebody says your name, and you hear this like, 'Dooo!' And then you do the geek spiral. I remember somebody was talking, and I guess it was me."
This year, Theron and Zellweger are up against each other for the Oscar, along with Scarlett Johansson, Cynthia Erivo, and Saoirse Ronan.
