It's been a whirlwind past couple of weeks for One Direction diehards. With fellow former boybanders Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Harry Styles keeping the 1D mania strong with a slew of new singles and tour announcements, Liam Payne is reportedly the latest to join the mix with the alleged launch of his solo career.
The Sun reports that the pop star has teamed up with British chart-topper Ed Sheeran to create his inaugural solo track, which the pair allegedly co-wrote together earlier this year and is expected to be teased on the new dad's social media in the next few days.
According to the U.K. newspaper, an insider reports that "With Ed's expertise in creating a hit, Liam knows they can't go wrong. They have produced something special together. Having Ed on board is a clever move too, as it means he will reach music fans beyond just 1D obsessives."
As the duo have a history of working together—Payne and the "Shape of You" hitmaker apparently collaborated to craft the song "18" off of the band's album Four in 2014—and with Sheeran's skill of turning anything he touches to musical gold, we have high expectations for the star's debut track.
Could Liam and Ed's upcoming single be the song of the summer? With Styles and Malik in the game, it's still up in the air!
