Kim Kardashian is currently being called out again for cultural appropriation, but that’s not the only controversy she’s been a part of during the last few days. The celebrity was criticized after she was photographed with her daughter North West wearing her naturally curly hair straight.
In the photo, which was posted all over social media, North West can be seen wearing her hair straightened in a high ponytail. It brought up questions of why, along with a curiosity if North was wearing extensions because her hair looked noticeably longer than it has in the past.
Kardashian, though, addressed the concern in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
"She wanted straight hair and I straightened her hair one time,” she told the news outlet. "It’s funny, because online everyone thought that we pressed it and did this whole thing. It was just a flat iron. I even read that she had extensions on! She has curly hair, so when you straighten her hair, it’s gonna look really long. I can’t believe people didn’t get that. Sometimes you just have to tune it out! It was her birthday and all she wanted was to try to have her hair straightened."
She went on to explain that she told North it was allowed to be straightened for her party, as well as their upcoming trip to New York.
"You know, I’m not gonna let her straighten her hair all the time, but if she wants it that way two or three days a year, then that’s fine with me. She loved it, but she loves her curly hair, too. Chris [Appleton], who does my hair, braided the front of her hair and put it up in a ponytail and she absolutely loved it. She loved getting pampered."
So there you have it. It was a request from North herself, but don't expect to see this hairstyle around often.
