PSA: The 49th Annual Country Music Association Awards, otherwise known unofficially as the Oscars of country, airs live tonight from Nashville, Tenn. Even if you're not a big fan of the genre, you'll want to tune in to relish in the sweet nostaglia of veteran acts—from Kenny Chesney to John Mellencamp—that are scheduled to perform, as well as the mixed bag of presenters (Jack Bauer will be in the building) and stage hijinks courtesy of eight-time co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. Below, seven reasons why you should be making a date with your couch tonight.
1. The impressive showing of female performers.
Performances at the CMA Awards have historically been male-dominated; but this year, some of the top women in the biz are claiming the mic, including Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert, Maddie & Tae, Little Big Town, Kacey Musgraves, Reba, Lindsey Stirling, and Carrie Underwood.
2. Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton in the same room.
The country duo (and longtime Vocalist of the Year titleholders) will make their first public appearance since announcing their split. But really, we're just curious to see how Lambert has maintained her breakover.
3. Kacey Musgraves's cowboy boots.
This week, the 27-year-old singer launched a collection of women's cowboy boots for Texas-based heritage boot brand Lucchese, and there couldn't be a more opportune time to showcase them.
4. Kiefer Sutherland is presenting an award.
You may be asking yourself: Why is the British-born Canadian actor presenting an award at the CMA Awards? The answer: Why not?
5. Hannah Davis's engagement ring.
Seeing as Derek Jeter confirmed on his website yesterday that he's engaged to the model and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covergirl, we suspect we'll get a sneak peek at the rock when she presents a trophy.
6. Justin Timberlake will be performing.
The veteran singer announced via Instagram yesterday that he'll be sharing the stage with country singer Chris Stapleton, who's up for three awards at the show, including Male Vocalist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year.
7. A surprise appearance by Taylor Swift?
Hey, it could happen.
Don't forget to tune in to the 2015 CMA Awards tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
