Between sprinting up the stairs at the House and raising more than $2 million for recovery in Texas, New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has found some time to get an asymmetrical bob, slicing a few inches off her signature long, dark hair. She debuted the look in a lengthy Instagram post, where she also took the time to explain the new COVID relief bill, officially known as the American Rescue Plan Act.
Since her early days in public service, AOC has had long hair, which managed to spark an entire Twitter debate when people found out that her haircut and hair color cost $300 to maintain. However, it seemed like the majority of people complaining weren't aware that $300 is just what haircuts and highlights cost.
Her new look on the other hand is is shorter, grazes her collarbones, and is the shortest that constituents and fans alike have ever seen her hair.
In her talk, AOC offered more details about the $1,400 stimulus checks that are, according to CNN, already arriving in accounts. And because the American Rescue Plan Act encompasses so much more than the checks, she talked about the extension of unemployment insurance payments, COVID-related funeral reimbursements from FEMA, assistance for bars and restaurants, and hinted at some progress for student loan forgiveness.
"Did we get what we wanted? Absolutely not," she said, referencing things like the $15 minimum wage. "But did we get things that are gonna change people's lives? Absolutely yes."
The commenters thanked Ocasio-Cortez for explaining the $1.9 trillion bill using more accessible language. Even commenters that don't live in the U.S. noted that they loved that she was taking the time to give people the information.
