This is going to sound jaded, and it is, but I don’t get that hyped up about talking with or interviewing celebrities anymore. It’s part of the job and it’s become somewhat routine nearly a -decade into my career. But that wasn’t the case with Sarah Jessica Parker. I think about her, er–Carrie Bradshaw, a couple of times a week. So I was a little giddy when I got the chance to ask her a few questions about her beauty routine.

I wanted to know how SJP’s skin never looks tired or dull and she said, “I try to drink as much water as I can during the day, and I rely on effective, easy-to-use products in the morning and evening to keep my skin moisturized.” Right now, that effective, easy-to-use product is RoC’s Retinol Correxion Smoothing Max Hydration Cream. “[It’s] my favorite at the moment… I have sensitive skin so finding good products can be tricky, but this is a really incredible product.” Despite the fact that it includes retinol, Parker tells InStyle, “I can use it in the morning or evening and it leaves my skin perfectly hydrated.”

Now I’ll dive into what’s behind the product that Sarah Jessica Parker calls her “favorite.” Most obviously there is retinol and for good reason. It’s one of few FDA-approved products for wrinkle reduction. Besides lessening the severity of wrinkles and fine lines, retinol also speeds up the rate of your skin cell turnover, which promotes a smoother texture, more even skin tone, and brighter skin. The increased skin cell turnover can also greatly reduce acne since it sloughs away the congestion that can cause it.

The other important ingredient here is the ultra-moisturizing hyaluronic acid. It’s efficient on its own (it can hold 1000 times its weight in water) but it’s also the perfect counterbalance to retinol. While retinol has all of those aforementioned benefits it can dry out and irritate skin. Hyaluronic acid provides intense hydration that can prevent or lessen things like redness, flakiness, and tight skin.

SJP is a fan but so are 6,600-plus shoppers who have given RoC’s Retinol Correxion Smoothing Max Hydration Cream a five-star rating. A 65-year-old shopper with “serious wrinkles and creases” said they saw a “definite improvement.” After two weeks their wrinkles and fine lines were “vastly improved.” Plus, their skin went “from flat to glowing,” and “looks plumper, fuller, and more firm.”
