Bridget Moynahan and Tom Brady's Relationship Timeline: A Look Back

Former professional football quarterback Tom Brady and actress Bridget Moynahan were a hot commodity when they started dating in 2004.

Whether attending industry events as each other's plus one, canoodling courtside at basketball games, or speaking highly of each other during interviews, the pair elicited "oohs" and "awws" from friends, family, and fans alike. So when they decided to call it quits by the end of 2006, many were surprised. Even more of a surprise? When Moynahan discovered she was pregnant with her and Brady's child shortly after their breakup.

While the pregnancy didn't necessarily bring the exes back together as lovers, it got them to come together as parents.

"From the very beginning, the whole goal specifically was to always keep it positive," Moynahan told People about co-parenting with Brady. "To raise a son in the healthiest environment, and I know we've all done that, and it shows."

2004: Bridget Moynahan and Tom Brady first meet

It's unclear how exactly the two met back in 2004, but both were at the height of their careers at the time. Moynahan had starred in Coyote Ugly and had already made her buzzy debut as Natasha on HBO's Sex and the City. At the same time, Brady won his second Super Bowl as the star quarterback for the New England Patriots — it was seemingly only a matter of time that their paths crossed. 

February 2004: Bridget Moynahan and Tom Brady are first spotted together

In February 2004, Moynahan was described as Brady's "love interest" by Sports Illustrated after the two were spotted hugging and kissing at Brady's Super Bowl XXXVIII victory party. They were also seen together in April at the opening of the Ermenegildo Zegna flagship store in New York City. By July, they were officially a couple, making their red carpet debut at the I, Robot premiere in Los Angeles.

June 2005: Tom Brady talks candidly about Bridget Moynahan on 60 Minutes

As time would eventually prove true, Moynahan and Brady were, and always will be, friends first. Brady even said so during a rare interview with 60 Minutes in 2005, revealing that Moynahan was one of his BFFs.

"I can be myself around her, and there are not many people I can be myself around," he said, per CBS News. "It's fun to be around your best friends who know you well, and she's someone I consider one of my very best friends."

December 2006: Bridget Moynahan and Tom Brady break up

After dating for nearly three years, the Blue Bloods actress and NFL MVP decided to go their separate ways in December 2006. 

A rep for Moynahan confirmed the split in a statement, per People, saying: "[They] amicably ended their three-year relationship several weeks ago. We ask for your respect and consideration of their privacy. No further comments will be made."

February 18, 2007: Bridget Moynahan and Tom Brady are expecting

Interestingly, although Moynahan and Brady's love story had just come to an end, their familial story was only beginning. A few months after their split, the former model announced that she was pregnant — and that her ex was the father. While Brady was in the early stages of his relationship with his now ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, he was committed to being a dad to his and Moynahan's child.

August 22, 2007: Bridget Moynahan and Tom Brady welcome their first child

On August 22, 2007, the former couple welcomed a baby boy, John "Jack" Edward Thomas, in Los Angeles. Apparently, Brady didn't want to miss out on the action, having reportedly taken a private jet to be with Moynahan for the birth, according to People. Despite having called off their romantic relationship the year prior, the exes seemed set on cultivating a new relationship, namely, one of co-parenting.

June 4, 2008: Bridget Moynahan discusses her split from Tom Brady

Less than a year after her son's arrival, the Crown Vic star spoke about the "traumatic" experience of being pregnant while still getting over her breakup with Brady. 

"Going through that traumatic time of being heartbroken and then being pregnant turned my whole life upside down and inside out and just knocked the wind out of me," Moynahan told Harper's Bazaar in 2008. "But I got so much out of that … Now I have a child, and it's the best thing in the world."

February 2023: Bridget Moynahan and Tom Brady take a family photo

After a very public breakup, Brady and Moynahan are still on good terms. In February 2023, the former NFL quarterback shared a sweet family photo of himself, Moynahan, and their 15-year-old son, Jack, whom they welcomed after their split.
