Tina Fey’s Makeup Artist Says This Serum Is the Key to Her “Firm, Plump, and Bright” Complexion

Between 30 Rock and Mean Girls I quote Tina Fey’s characters (or writing) a couple of times a week. (My go-to is a riff on “What a week, huh.” “Lemon, it’s Wednesday.”) I assume the Tina Fey quotes in my brain are going to grow exponentially following the January 12 release of the Mean Girls musical. At the movie’s premiere last night, Tina Fey looked radiant and ageless, and according to her makeup artist Gita Bass, Dermalogica’s Pro-Collagen Banking Serum is at least partially responsible. 

Actually, Tina Fey’s entire skincare prep for the premiere was from Oprah-approved brand Dermalogica: The Multi-Active Toner, Multivitamin Power Firm Eye Cream, Phyto Nature Oxygen Cream, and the star of the show the Pro-Collagen Banking Serum. Bass tells InStyle that the beauty approach was to create “glowing, radiant skin” that contrasts with the intricate details of Fey’s dress. Why is the collagen serum so especially important to Tina Fey’s skincare prep? “It helps to preserve collagen whilst plumping and hydrating skin for a firmer, brighter appearance immediately, and over time,” Bass says. 

There’s no magic behind its efficacy; it’s just a very well-formulated serum with incredibly effective ingredients. First up is the titular ingredient collagen, more specifically a collagen complex that is packed with amino acids, peptides, and antioxidants. This trifecta importantly heals damaged skin, increases moisture retention, reverses photoaging, and potentially decreases wrinkles and boosts firmness. Polyglutomic acid (PGA) plays a very important supporting role in this formula. The ingredient is 10 times more hydrating than hyaluronic acid and it has instant skin plumping, fine line-reducing, and pore-minimizing effects. 

To really amplify all of these benefits, Bass did a gua sha facial on Tina Fey while applying the serum. “It allows for deeper penetration of the product and helps to promote lymphatic drainage for a more lifted, sculpted look.” If you decide to skip the second part, you’ll still get a healthy dose of benefits. “It helps minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles in addition to providing a plumper and firmer surface,” when it’s used on its own, Bass says.
