Last night's CFDA Fashion Awards ceremony in New York City included Anne Hathaway paying tribute to everyone's favorite pop princess Britney Spears via a denim-on-denim Ralph Lauren bustier and skirt, but it wasn't the only spotlight-stealing look that the actress wore to the event. While the floor-sweeping blue gown may have made the headlines, Hathaway also changed int a gauzy red dress from Rodarte's Spring-Summer 2018 collection as she pulled double duty as the night's host and a guest expected to showcase the best in American design.
Anne's red gown featured a wrap silhouette and the sheer red lace fabric displayed her coordinating red underpinnings. The dress also included black floral embellishment on the shoulders and bodice, and the black blooms continued down the skirt, which also featured a tiered, ruffly hem. On the runway, the Rodarte sisters, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, showed the look with baby's breath and arm cuffs, but Anne went minimal with her accessories, adding some Bulgari jewelry for good measure and shying away from fresh flowers.
Hathaway also switched up her hair for the second dress, pulling her chocolate brown hair into a quick updo to show off her drop earrings.
Hathaway's role as host was a last-minute change to the event. Sarah Jessica Parker, who was originally tasked with emcee duties, had to drop out “due to unforeseen circumstances” last week.
Fans can see Hathaway back on the big screen with her new film, Eileen, when it arrives in New York and Los Angeles-based movie theaters Dec. 1 and nationwide on Dec. 8.
According to People, the film chronicles Hathaway's character Rebecca and Thomasin McKenzie's Eileen, who are "employees at a prison in 1960s Massachusetts who strike up an unusual friendship that eventually proves sinister."
"Set during a bitter 1964 Massachusetts winter, young secretary Eileen becomes enchanted by the glamorous new counselor at the prison where she works," the official synopsis for the movie explains. "Their budding friendship takes a twisted turn when Rebecca reveals a dark secret — throwing Eileen onto a sinister path."
