It's almost time to head back to the Ton — and you can thank Lady Whistledown and Netflix for giving fans a teaser full of heaving bosoms, frilly dresses, and plenty of longing gazes.
That's right, Bridgerton season 3 is on the horizon and today, the streamer and Shondaland released the very first look at footage featuring Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) from the upcoming season. Fans have had to wait an unbearably long time to check in on the Featherington clan, thanks to production delays (you know why), but the new season is set to hit Netflix in two parts: one set of episodes will drop on May 16, followed by the rest of the season on Jun. 13.
A synopsis of the new season from Netflix explains that while fans all want a fairy-tale ending for Penelope and Colin, the two may have to deal with a bumpy road to get there.
"Bridgerton is back for its third season and finds Penelope Featherington has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly."
Netflix offered up a few more details, too, explaining that there may be a little teacher-student relationship happening, shifting from season 2's enemies-to-lovers storyline.
"Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret."
Of course, Coughlan and Newton aren't the only faces returning to the show. While we're all waiting with bated breath for Regé-Jean Page to return, Simone Ashley, Jonathan Bailey, and a slew of other familiar friends will be back.
