Ariana Grande sent support to Kentucky voters waiting in long lines on Tuesday — in the form of food and coffee.
The singer tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that she "sent some food and coffee trucks for everyone waiting in line" to cast their ballots in the Kentucky Democratic primary election. "Please pull up, enjoy and use your voice today we need u @kyexpocenter," she added.
The Black Voters Matter Twitter account also shared a video thanking Grande for her support outside the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville.
Amid the pandemic, voters turned out at the Kentucky Expo Center, the only polling place open in Louisville. CNN reported that voting hours were briefly extended by 30 minutes after traffic delays slowed people down en route to the center and caused a crowd to amass outside.
The doors were reopened after Charles Booker, the progressive Democratic candidate facing Amy McGrath, had asked a court to extend voting hours until 9 p.m. McGrath tweeted that she was also filing an injunction seeking to keep the polls open in Louisville, but the judge did not issue another order beyond the 30-minute extension.
As of Wednesday morning, McGrath is taking a slight lead over Booker, with 44.7% of the votes to his 36.5%. According to NBC, that tally includes only votes cast in person at the polls on Tuesday, and mail-in ballots that could determine the outcome have not been counted.
