Courteney Cox Remembered Matthew Perry With Her Favorite Scene From 'Friends'

After the Friends cast shared a collective message to fans in the wake of Matthew Perry's passing in October, it seems that his cast mates are taking time to share their memories, as well. Today, hours after Matt LeBlanc shared a tribute to Perry online, Courteney Cox followed suit with a touching tribute that included a peek behind the scenes of the beloved NBC sitcom and a summary of exactly what made Perry so special.

“I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a clip from the the show. “When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites.”

The scene that Cox shared was from an episode where David Schwimmer's character, Ross, walked in on Perry's Chandler Bing in bed. As her caption continued, Cox added that Perry would often give his co-stars funny lines to add to their planned dialogue.

“To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London," Cox explained in her caption. "But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story. In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind. 🤍🕊️”

Cox's message is especially meaningful as fans have noticed that the two, who played Chandler Bing and Monica Geller on the show, had managed to keep in touch after the series wrapped in 2004. 

People notes that in 2019, Cox shared a selfie of herself and Perry, writing, “Guess who I had lunch with today .... I KNOW!! Could I BE any happier? #realfriends.” A few years later, Cox shared an image from the final day of filming Friends to commemorate Perry's 52nd birthday.

Back in 2013, Cox even guest-starred on Perry's NBC sitcom, Go On. Their characters didn't end up being a romantic match, but Friends fans loved the cheeky moment nonetheless. 

"Some ladies can even make a cemetery look good," Perry wrote on Twitter at the time alongside a photo from the set. "Thanks for joining us CC! #GoOn."
