I don’t fangirl over many celebrities, but Dakota Johnson is one of the few exceptions. She seems delightful, incredibly honest, and funny. Think: that Ellen moment, her transparency about the A.I. nature of her upcoming movie Madame Web, and that strange basket of limes in her home tour. What I’m getting at (in an admittedly roundabout way) is that I was firmly seated when she hosted Saturday Night Live last week. Her hair looked great, of course (no one makes a more convincing argument for bangs) and her complexion was radiant and smooth. As evidenced by a behind-the-scenes Instagram photo, CurrentBody’s LED Mask was partially responsible for the latter.
Johnson’s makeup artist, Georgie Eisdell elaborated on how the LED mask was used in an interview with Vogue. Eisdell said that Johnson didn’t get much sleep that week (presumably because of the Madame Web press tour) so they “took the time to put on the CurrentBody LED Face Mask,” which “doubles as a quick depuffing and firming skin treatment.”
LED skincare devices are not a fleeting trend — they’ve been all the rage for years now, and with good reason. There are five types of LED light therapy, but CurrentBody’s mask uses the two most popular: red and infrared. Red light penetrates past the superficial layers of the skin where it effectively boosts collagen production, reduces wrinkles and fine lines, and plumps skin. Infrared does the same but it reaches even deeper layers of the skin.
At $380, it may seem expensive, but the CurrentBody LED Mask is quite on par with other skincare devices — high-tech products mean a high price tag. The 10-minute anti-aging and complexion-enhancing treatment has more than 1,300 five-star reviews on the brand’s site. One said, “[My] wrinkles are slowly but surely fading,” while another shopper said that their skin “has definitely become tighter.” A third noted that it made their face “plumper and healthier-looking.”
