Gillian Anderson's Ivory Golden Globes Gown Was Covered With Vagina Embroidery

With many of the celebrities at this year's Golden Globes opting for fiery red looks or shimmering metallics, Gillian Anderson's strapless white ballgown seemed to fly under the radar. However, upon closer inspection, the Gabriela Hearst creation actually had subtle vagina-inspired embroidery on the voluminous skirt. When asked about the eyebrow-raising detail, Anderson told Deadline (via People) that it was "brand-appropriate."

"[I wore it] for so many reasons," she said. "It's brand appropriate." At a second stop on the red carpet, Anderson told People that the design was floral, saying, "It’s covered in peonies!" Whether the monochromatic design was vaginal or floral, it took a long, long time to complete. In a statement from the brand, Hearst and her team revealed that each design took more than three hours to complete — and the raw-edged skirt was covered in them. Anderson finished the look with a round handbag with a rigid handle and Chopard jewelry.

While she's no stranger to the red carpet — especially since her show, The Crown, racked up nominations and a win tonight for Elizabeth Debicki, she got real about how she stays comfortable when she's not in the spotlight.

"I don't wear a bra anymore. I don't wear a bra. I can't wear a bra. I can't, no. I can't," the actress said during an Instagram Live Q&A in 2021. "I'm sorry, but I don't care if I reach my belly button, my breasts reach my belly button. I'm not wearing a bra anymore. It's just too fucking uncomfortable."

When she was asked what her go-to stay-at-home 'fit was, she said she'd wear "comfortable" black sweats and a black hoodie "every day."

"[It's] probably the same as my go-to out-of-lockdown outfit," she finished. "I'm so lazy."
