Snaps are in order for Jenna Ortega's Met Gala appearance. The young actress arrived on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to honor late legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Her 2023 Met Gala look is wasn't a big departure from her famous character Wednesday Addams's go-to gothcore aesthetic.
For tonight's arrivals, Ortega wore a preppy take on goth, which meant a crisp white button-up to contrast with all the black she knows and loves (this time, it took the form of a LBJ: little black jacket over her dress). Her corset gown also featured a long ruffled train embellished with chains and pearls (both Chanel touchstones) and she wore black-and-white platform Oxfords to finish the look with one more touch of prep style.
The 2023 Met Gala marks the young actress's first Met, though ever since the premiere of her hit Netflix show Wednesday, Ortega has become a fashion and media darling. At the beginning of this year, Ortega attended the Golden Globe Awards (where she was nominated for the said show) in a pleated flowy Gucci dress with midsection cutouts, and the following month, she went back to black at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in a strapless Versace number. Most recently, the star announced her partnerships with both Adidas and Dior for their Gris Dior perfume campaign. In a recent interview with InStyle, Ortega says playing the queen of goth has changed her own personal style.
“I do think that Wednesday changed my taste a lot. I have a hard time getting her off of me, at least clothing-wise,” she said before adding that she had been wanting to go goth for a while. “It's also something that I've always wanted to do. I just never felt like I could. I feel like there were always a lot of voices and opinions that I used to place too much value in.”
