No one is perhaps able to take on Mary Poppins’s colorful whimsy as well as Julie Andrews did in 1964, but Emily Blunt’s certainly pining to try. The Golden Globe-winning actress and expectant mother is in talks to star as the iconic character in Disney’s new musical sequel, Entertainment Weekly reports.
If she accepts the role, Blunt’s script will be filled to the brim with details that reflect author P.L. Travers’s children’s book series. This time, the plotline takes place in Depression-era London, 20 years after the adventures of the classic. And though it’s often best to leave timeless pieces untouched, we have a feeling this project would please Poppins fanatics everywhere. Not only does Blunt have what it takes to deliver in the imaginary musical category, having previously starred in Disney’s Into the Woods, but also if she claims the role, she’d once more work with Rob Marshall, the director behind Woods and the new Poppins sequel.

To boot, the new project’s score is coming straight from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the gents behind Hairspray. This is definitely one to keep our eyes on.
