Everything You Wanted to Know About Meghan Markle's Ex-Husband

Before Prince Harry came into the picture, Meghan Markle had another love-interest: her now ex-husband Trevor Engelson.

The pair began dating in 2004, when the actress was struggling to find her way in Hollywood. Seven years later, in 2011, Markle and her movie producer beau tied the knot in a Jamaica-set destination wedding.

Just months prior to the tropical wedding, Meghan got her big break with a supporting role on USA’s legal drama Suits. Shooting soon sent her to Canada, reportedly driving a wedge between her and her new husband.

According to a biography written by Andrew Morton, no one saw Markle’s 2013-split coming, least of all Engelson.

“Trevor went from cherishing Meghan to, as one friend observed, ‘feeling like he was a piece of something stuck to the bottom of her shoe,’” Morton writes. “A wealthy entrepreneur friend claimed the marriage ended so abruptly that Meghan sent her wedding and engagement rings back to Trevor by registered post. Another confirmed that the decision to end the marriage was made by Meghan and that it had come ‘totally out of the blue.’”

He’s a Producer

This is Trevor Engelson 101. The 41-year-old is best known for his work on Remember Me and Snowfall—he also serves as E.P. for the upcoming serial adaptation of Heathers.

The early years of Trevor and Meghan’s relationship were reportedly marred by Engelson’s lack of interest in casting Markle in his projects. Eventually, he threw her a bone, providing the actress a small role in 2010’s Robert Pattinson-led drama Remember Me.

He Once Dated Bethenny Frankel

During a radio interview on Australia’s Kyle and Jackie O Show in April, the real housewife revealed that she and Meghan’s former husband once went on a date.

“I met this guy as a romantic interest—his name is Trevor. I met him in Chicago and we were supposed to go out, but we ended up seeing each other one time. He’d been texting me. and he’s a producer in L.A. He told me he was married before, he’s divorced—he was married to this girl named Meghan Markle from the TV show Suits. And I’m like ‘Oh, OK.’ So six months later I’m like ‘Holy shit! Your ex is going to be a princess.’ Is that crazy? So he pitched to me a TV show to produce together about a bunch of businesswomen—which I think we are going to do together.”

So is the romance dead? Looks that way …

“He lives in L.A., I live in New York,” Frankel explained. “We kind of met one time—we haven’t slept together, we haven’t hooked up. I don’t know, I didn’t even think about it. He looks a little bit like my ex, which scares me. We bypassed the romantics and went into the business, but I don’t know. There’s something salacious about doing a TV project with Meghan Markle’s ex. There’s something there.”
