Why Paris Hilton Kept Her Son a Secret From Her Mother, Kathy Hilton

Paris Hilton is stepping into her mom era — her “best era yet.” Speaking to Romper, the socialite and mother of two candidly speaks about surrogacy with her son, Phoenix, and daughter, London. Paris reveals during the pregnancy of her first child, she and her husband, Carter Reum, kept mum about their exciting, expecting news while the rest of the Hilton family was kept in the dark — even her mother, Kathy Hilton.

During season 2 of Paris in Love, Paris shares a sweet moment with her mother, telling her that she has a surprise for her: a newborn son named Phoenix. At that moment, Kathy held her grandchild for the first time.

“My life has been so public, so out there. I didn’t want my son to come into this world with any negative energy,” she explained. “I’m really happy I did it that way, just for Carter and I to have that journey together without the outside world chirping in.”

As for her daughter, London, Kathy and her younger sister, Nicholai “Nicky” Rothschild (a mom of three herself), knew she was expecting a baby girl. Still, it wasn’t until Thanksgiving that the couple shared the news with the entire family.

When it comes to Paris and motherhood, she “is such a doting mother,” Nicky shared. Paris, whose entire life has been in the spotlight, prefers her family to be kept under wraps, with a few rare moments on Paris in Love, but other than that, she has become phobic about sharing photos of her two children, even with her family.

“My narrative and my story has been told by the media for half my life, and I just didn’t want my child being put out into the world without me being in control,” she said. “You become a mama bear.”
