While you may be cozying up with your favorite holiday movies, Prime Video is already looking forward to 2024, including teasing its upcoming slate of movies — like Anne Hathaway's new movie, The Idea of You. In a new teaser video from the streamer, a clip from the film is sprinkled in with Prime's new and returning shows and series, including The Boys and a remake of Patrick Swayze's Roadhouse starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
But The Idea of You may be one of the most highly anticipated of the bunch, garnering attention for rumors that the film could be an adaptation of Harry Styles fanfic. Whether or not that is true, the film is based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name and co-stars Amazon go-to Nicholas Galitzine, who starred in this year's Red, White & Royal Blue. In the clip, Hathaway's character Solène Marchand says “What will people say?” before Galitzine's character Hayes Campbell responds, “I don’t care what they say.”
The film follows Solène, a single mother, who has a secret relationship with the lead singer of a band called August Moon after they meet at a concert.
Lee offered some background to fans connecting her work to One Direction, saying that the inspiration for her novel came when she was watching music videos while her “husband was away on business.”
“I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise,” she said in an interview from 2017. “It was like … art. I spent a good hour or so googling and trying to figure out who this kid was, and in doing so, I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted.”
“This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles,” Lee added in a 2020 interview with Vogue. “It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.”
The Idea of You arrives on Prime Video in 2024.
