Who run the world? Technically, the correct answer to that question is "girls," but we all know it's really Beyoncé and Taylor Swift's world. We're just living in it. These two music icons might be at the top of their respective games right now (and two of the most famous people of this generation), but you won't catch them competing for attention, ticket sales, or streams. In fact, Swift said they actually refuse to be pitted against each other.
“There were so many stadium tours this summer, but the only ones that were compared were me and Beyoncé,” Swift said in her Time magazine Person of the Year interview. “Clearly, it’s very lucrative for the media and stan culture to pit two women against each other, even when those two artists in question refuse to participate in that discussion.”
Swift actually had nothing but glowing reviews for her peer, both as a musician and person. “She’s the most precious gem of a person — warm and open and funny," she gushed. “And she’s such a great disrupter of music-industry norms. She taught every artist how to flip the table and challenge archaic business practices.”
The pals put their support on display earlier this year by showing up to the premiere of the other's concert movie. Beyoncé attended Swift's Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Los Angeles premiere in October, while Swift flew to London last week for a screening of RENAISSANCE: A Film By Beyoncé. Swift even shared an Instagram post at the time thanking Beyoncé for attending while also praising her immense talent.
"I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce‘s influence," Swift wrote alongside a boomerang of the two sitting in a movie theater. "The way she’s taught me and every artist out here to break rules and defy industry norms. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility. She’s been a guiding light throughout my career and the fact that she showed up tonight was like an actual fairytale. 😇🙏🥹"
