Kate Middleton might be the Princess of Wales, but being a mother always comes first. Case in point? The royal will not be joining her husband Prince William on Nov. 7 at the 2023 Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Singapore for a reason that moms everywhere can relate to: she's staying home to support their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, during a busy school week.
According to People, their eldest son George (aka the future King of England) has exams all that week, so Kate will stay in Windsor to be by his side. William previously confirmed his attendance during his recent trip to New York City for the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit. Kate also skipped the NYC trip earlier this month for mom duties.
This year marks the third-annual Earthshot Prize Awards. However, it will be the first time Middleton misses the event. She attended the previous ceremonies in 2022 and 2021, which took place in Boston and London, respectively. In typical Kate fashion, the royal used her style to make a statement and wore upcycled and sustainable looks during both years. In 2021, she re-wore a pale purple Alexander McQueen(her wedding dress designer) gown. Last year, she stunned in a green (fitting) gown rented from HURR, a U.K.-based clothing rental service.
William first launched the Earthshot Prize back in 2020 to celebrate individuals who have made tremendous efforts to better the environment. The competition will run every year until 2030 with the hopes of developing effective solutions to the world's environmental problems.
"Every year over the course of this critical decade, five Winners with the best chance of helping to achieve our Earthshots will be awarded £1 million each to scale their solutions, with all 15 Finalists receiving tailored support from our global alliance of partners," the site reads. "By spotlighting environmental innovators and their solutions, we aim to spark the world’s collective imagination and drive the mindset of urgent optimism and action."
