Taylor Swift and Celine Dion are hugging it out at the 2024 Grammys.
Fans first accused Swift of ignoring Dion after she seemingly brushed past the legendary singer while accepting her award for Album of the Year — however, they quickly shut down rumors of any bad blood with a sweet embrace. In a photo taken backstage, Taylor adorably pulled Dion in for a hug wrapping her arms around her neck and leaning in with a huge grin on her face. Dion placed her arm around Swift's back and also sported a smile for the camera.
Still, fans were in an uproar over Swift's apparent "snub" on social media. "Taylor Swift fully ignoring Celine Dion like the disrespect even Celine was like … Que?” one user wrote on X, while another commented: "I love @taylorswift, but it seemed like she blew Celine off. No hug or anything, it was rather shocking to see that."
Celine's surprise appearance at the Grammys came two years after she was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare and incurable neurological disorder, in 2022. And while she may not have received the love everyone expected from Swift on-stage, the audience more than made up for it with a standing ovation. "Thank you all, I love you right back. When I say that I'm happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart," she told the crowd, before advising them to "never take for granted" the joy that music brings.
Swift had a huge night herself, taking home not one but two Grammys for her Midnights album while also making a major announcement. During her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album, Swift revealed that she has a new record coming out this spring.
"I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I've been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out on April 19," she said, adding, "It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I'm gonna go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you. I love you. Thank you."
